NASW International Chapter History |
CHAPTER: The International Chapter is one of 56 Chapters under the umbrella organization of NASW. NASW has approximately 155,000 members. This Chapter has approximately 300 members. As a small chapter, we are under what is known as the Chapter Development Fund. This means that we receive a stipend each month that reflects a portion of the dues of all our active members. This stipend is made up of a “Staffing Grant” that is meant to support technical needs. The greater the number of members, the more grants money we receive.
NASW National: Has two meetings each year and one Delegate Assembly every third year, the next one being in 2007. The first yearly meeting is the Social Work Profession Conference, held in the Fall; the second is the Annual Leadership Meeting (ALM) held Aug 3rd. NASW underwrites the ED and the President to attend the ALM and one delegate (the President Elect) to the Assembly; the Chapter pays for the Fall Meeting.Relationship with the Army: The Chapter is a non-profit organization that has been granted Private Organization status by USAREUR (United States Army Europe). We are issued an APO box and may use the MPS with this designation, which save us thousands of dollars per year. Any mail addressed to our box must say NASW on the first line or will likely be returned. We also have a Community Bank checking account. Signatures are the Office Manager , President and Treasurer.
Chapter Office: The office is located in Heidelberg, Germany in the Kircheim section of town. It is staffed fstaffed 3 days, Monday through Wednesday from 9:00am to 1:00pm.. We have a copy machine, ISDN telephone lines, telefax, answering machine and a 350 MHz computer connected to the Internet.
Board Meetings: Held approximately quarterly, these are chaired by the President and in her/his absence, the VP. Votes are by simple majority and a quorum requires a majority of members attend. All efforts should be made to attend a meeting. Members should fax in a signed proxy for voting purposes. Members missing two meetings will be asked to consider being replaced; replacements by nomination will take place after missing a third meeting. Calendar: The Chapter runs on a fiscal year of July 1- June 30. We file a 990 IRS Form to exempt us from taxation on November 15 each year.
